Herwig Wolfram's History of the Goths is very worth reading due to the fact that there is so much information in it.

I have compared this book to Peter Heather's book on the Goths and found each book fairly easy to read if start at the beginning. I like the lineage charts included in Wolfram's book and as well the vast notes and references by: The book begins with a discussion of the origins of the Goths along the Baltic Sea coast in the first century CE.

I found his discussion of the archeological record (and the various interpretations of it) very interesting - the cultures and civilizations on the east side of the Rhine and Danube rivers is something not typically addressed in /5(16).
